DAY ONE - Operation: Los Angeles Commences

August 27, 2006

8:01 AM
I turn in my keys and leave my apartment complex for the last time

9:05 AM
Toby is packed and ready to start this adventure.

9:33 AM
We stop to say goodbye to my sister, Applejack, and Zoe, then head on our way!

11:37 AM
We arrive in Virginia!

-Population: 7,567,465
-Capital: Richmond
-State slogan: "Virginia is for Lovers"

Official Virginia Roadkill Tally:
2 Deer

1:26 PM
We arrive in West Virginia!

-Population: 1,816,856
-Capital: Charleston
-State Slogan: "Mountaineers Are Always Free"

Official West Virginia Roadkill Tally:
0
It seems West Virginia is a roadkill-free state - they should be proud.
We contemplated counting tire-roadkill, as it was abundant in the state.

4:15 PM
We enter Kentucky

-Population: 4,173,405
-Capital: Frankfort
-State Slogan: "Unbridled Spirit"

Kentucky has a strange fascination with naming its cities after European places: London, Paris, Frankfort, Versailles, etc. Unfortunately, they have trouble with European pronunciation. Versailles in Kentucky is pronounced "ver-sales." Ugh! But I guess that should be expected.

6:20 PM
We arrive in Lexington, KY!
Tonight we visited KB and her family. We were treated to KB's famous lasagna, then walked down to a local ice cream shop for dessert. Yum, mint chocolate chip ice cream!

DAY ONE SUMMARY:
Total miles traveled - 517.9
States driven through - 4
